Health psychology is the study of ways thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence health, wellness,
and healthcare. It focuses on how psychological, behavioral, and social factors affect physical health and
wellness.
This is why psychological well-being is an important part of maintaining overall physical health and why
your doctor inquiries about your mental health, relational issues, and life stressors.
Mental health is a core part of psychological well-being. It reflects how we think, feel, and cope with
life’s challenges, as well as the quality of our relationships. Behavioral health focuses on how daily
choices—such as diet, exercise, substance use, learning, and spiritual practices—affect mind and body.
Psychosocial health is the balance of mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, and how these
areas support healthy interaction with others.
For optimum psychological health and wellness, strive to maintain good H.A.B.I.T.S. My goal as a
psychotherapist is to assist clients in achieving total wellness by balancing their HABITS (Healthy
Attitude, Body, Interactions, character Traits, and Spirit). Let us explore the acronym:
Healthy- showing physical, mental, or emotional well-being.
Attitude- a set of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors toward a particular object, person, thing, or event.
Each attitude is comprised of three components known as the ABC model:
A represents the affective process and refers to the emotional reaction one has toward a person,
object, situation, or set of circumstances.
B represents the behavioral process; it refers to the way one behaves when exposed to a person,
object, situation, or set of circumstances
C represents the Cognitive process: refers to one’s thoughts about a person, object, situation, or
set of circumstances
Behavior- one’s ability to interact, function, adjust, and resolve issues.
Interactions-the act of talking, looking, sharing, or engaging in any kind of action that involves two or
more.
Traits-personality characteristics or values that one has which help to make an individual into the kind of
person he/she is.
Spirit- the non-physical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character, the soul,
Many mental health challenges are reinforced by habitual thought patterns, emotional responses, and
daily routines. Sustainable change is achieved not through dramatic one-time fixes, but through small,
consistent practices that build lasting transformation.
At H.A.B.I.T.S Psychotherapy our mission is to help individuals, couples, and families create lasting
change by building healthier habits. We believe transformation happens through small, consistent steps
supported by evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing,
and habit-formation science. In a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment, we work
collaboratively and honor each client’s strengths, values, and pace. By fostering empowerment and self-
awareness, we help clients identify and replace harmful habits with healthier ones that align with their
goals. Our comprehensive approach recognizes that habits shape mental, emotional, relational, and
spiritual well-being. We also seek to destigmatize therapy, making it an approachable, human process of
growth and resilience.
